DIY hair masks are a great way to pamper your hair with ingredients found in most kitchens. It’s helpful whether you want to switch up your hair routine or if you are going on an all-natural journey. With just a few ingredients, you’ll have a treatment that can nourish, hydrate, and strengthen the hair. Here are some of my favorite DIY hair masks that you can make at home.
- Coconut Oil Hair Mask
Coconut oil is excellent to help repair damaged hair. Because my curls are on the fine side, I use this to detangle and then leave it on before washing my hair. To make a coconut oil DIY hair mask, simply massage a generous amount of coconut oil into your hair then detangle any insane knots. Next, I leave it on for 30 minutes following up with my wash routine. This mask will help hydrate and strengthen your hair, helping it feel healthy.
- Avocado Hair Mask
Avocados are rich in healthy fats and vitamins that provide moisturize and repair the hair. To make an avocado hair mask, simply mash up an avocado and apply it to your hair. I also like to add a small amount of olive oil to add more slip. Then, leave the mask in your hair for 30 minutes and wash it out with shampoo and conditioner. This mask will help nourish and soften the hair while leaving it shiny.
- Honey Hair Mask
Honey is a natural humectant that can help lock in moisture in your hair. To make a honey DIY hair mask, mix two tablespoons of honey with two tablespoons of olive oil. Apply the mixture to your hair, making sure to cover all of your strands. Leave the mask in your hair for 30 minutes, then continue with your wash routine. This mask will help hydrate and soften your hair, leaving it looking and feeling healthy.
- Banana Hair Mask
Bananas are great for hair because the vitamins and minerals in them help nourish and strengthen. They contain many beneficial vitamins as well as potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron. These nutrients help to keep hair healthy and shiny, and can also help prevent split ends and dandruff. Most DIYs use a combination of bananas and oil to create the mask but I find using banana baby food helps you avoid chunks stuck in the hair. Simply apply the banana baby food jar to the hair, leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse out. Follow up with your shampoo and conditioner
